Petrichor is a word that describes the smell of soil and earth after a heavy rain, usually after a long period of dry, warm weather. It's a sentimental smell for me, evoking images and memories of long days hiking in the forest here in the PNW.
This vase is my expression of that earthy and grounding sensation.
The internal glaze is a multidimensional, glossy brown that shines in a variety of hues in the sunlight. This same glaze spills out to the outer part of the vase, highlighting deep carvings of nondescript, stylized leaf designs. These leaf carvings spring out of a shelf of sculpted clay that wraps around the entire circumference, adding an almost fungal character to the piece. Below the shelf are deep carved lines, showing off stained bare clay. These grooves provide an overall grounding textural experience to the vase.
